From the City of Los Alamitos
St. Isidore Historical Plaza, an important Community Center and
Historical site, was the target of an act of vandalism between Friday, July 21, 2023, and
Sunday, July 23, 2023. The incident has left the Plaza’s board members and the
community saddened by the act.
In the early hours of Sunday, July 23, 2023, Los Alamitos police officers were dispatched
to the Plaza, located at 10961 Reagan Street following a report of vandalism. Upon
arrival, it was discovered that the suspect had left red handprints on the main entrance of
the Church and defaced the statue of St. Isidore the Farmer. Preliminary assessment
indicated damages amounting to approximately $5,000, a significant impact to the Plaza’s
restoration and preservation efforts.
Thanks to the Plaza’s surveillance system, there was video footage of the suspect in the
act of vandalizing the Historical site. Los Alamitos Police immediately relayed information
to surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicles that was observed
leaving the scene. On Monday, July 31, the suspect was apprehended in the city of
Westminster and confessed to the act of vandalism at St. Isidore Historical Plaza.
