The Orange County High School of the Arts began at Los Alamitos High School in 1987 and quickly became one of the premier arts education academies in the nation, the alma mater of such future celebrities as Matthew Morrison (Glee), and singer Susan Egan.  The enrollment for the after-school program grew so fast that, when the Los Al community, opposed its expansion plans, the academy severed its ties with the district and moved to Santa Ana as a charter high school which still attracted some attendees from the Los Al-Seal Beach area.  Now, after a conflict with that district, it has again severed ties with a local district and will now operate as a county charter school.  Roxana Kopteman of the OC Register has the story.

OCHSA, the Orange County High School of the Arts, opened at Los Al HS in 1987. It moved to Santa Ana in 2001.
