Former Griffin standout Orlando Scandrick (LAHS ’05), gave $15,000 to the Griffin football program to buy new uniforms.  It’s not the first donation by Scandrick who played on the Griffins team which reached the CIF semi-finals in 2003.  For the past few years he has also hosted a passing league football tournament at the Griffin campus in the early summer.

Scandrick’s generosity and acknowledgement of Los Al as his school has rankled a few up at Boise State University who feel he should credit them as his school.

Last year was a frustrating one for Scandrick.   He entered 2016 coming off a torn ACL in his right knee that cost him the 2015 season. Then the 30-year old missed four games last season because of strains in both hamstrings. He was also bothered by a foot injury, in addition to the uncertainty of how the knee would hold up.  He recently told ESPN, in summing up his 2016 season, by simply saying “that wasn’t me.”

When the Cowboys opened their pre-season against the Rams Scandrick had “20-something” family members in attendance who fortunately saw more of their favorite player this year than they did last season.

When the Cowboys played the Rams last summer in the preseason, Scandrick did not play. He was held out with a number of starters, but as he looks back on it, he wasn’t ready to play.

I don’t even know if I was ready to practice,” Scandrick said. “I was out here and I was trying to get it right, but I feel completely different right now.”
