Rainfall and high tides breached the protective sand berms at Surfside, resulting in the garages of two homes being flooded with 1-2 feet of water early Sunday morning, according to the Patch news website.
Later that same day, Orange County firefighters rebuilt the berm area to ensure that the homes would be safe despite high surf conditions. No one was injured in the flooding.
As a result of the weekend storm, Orange County with recent rainfall totals ranging between 6 and nearly 20 inches — considerably more than the county’s annual average of about 12-13 inches.
