LAUSD gets new school resource officer

Shawn Watkins has been assigned to serve as School Resource Officer for the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Although he has worked as a patrol officer for Los Alamitos since 2016, Watkins’ position will be funded 45 percent by the city, 30 percent by the school district and 25 percent by Seal Beach.

Earthquake simulator part of SBPD preparedness exercise

The Seal Beach Police Department parking lot played epicenter to a recent “earthquake.”

An earthquake simulator known as the “Big Shaker” visited the department last week allowing City of Seal Beach officials, emergency responders and others to experience what a 6.7 magnitude earthquake feels like.

The “Big Shaker” is a mobile simulator that looks like a typical living room.

Ongoing and upcoming local issues: SBPD reviewing Matrix Police Services Study

• Police Services Study: Seal Beach Police Department Sgt. Michael Henderson, the department’s public information officer, confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 22, that the SBPD has received the Police Services Study from the contractor and SBPD officials are reviewing it. In April 2018, the City Council commissioned the Matrix Consulting Group to do a Police Services Study for Seal Beach.
